He was born near Kalinovec, in the Podravina village of Batina. After completing elementary school is working on agriculture, and then as a forestry worker. As a self-taught painter first pictures painted in 1944 with watercolors. In 1957 he moved to Zagreb, where he works as a mailman. After introductions Krsto Hegedusic occasionally works in his master's workshop. At that time begins the exhibit. In 1968 leaves Zagreb Post and professionally engaged in painting. He exhibits all over former Yugoslavia, mostly in Croatia, and in many countries of Europe, Asia, Africa, America and Australia, in group and solo exhibitions. His paintings and drawings are in many prestigious international galleries and private collections. As a member of the National Guard defended the young Croatian state.

Ivan Lackovic Croata painted the oil on glass, the traditional technique of Croatian Naive Artists northern regions. Most often he painted landscapes, figurative compositions, flowers and still life. The portraits are very rare. On the white surface of paper his primary means of expression was the line, rich and divorced to her full potential. The landscapes he painted representations of scenes of village life; he talked about the people who have accidentally appeared only in passing, while all around them remains invariant.
